Job Opportunity:

Volunteers of America Southwest is looking for a dynamic person to help create change in our communities through our Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Center (CORC). The CORC program is a unique program designed to assist individuals in dealing with opioid addiction. The CORC program is a multifaceted program that provides services that match our client's level of need. The program is fluid and dynamic in providing services that include inpatient and outpatient treatment, case management, supportive services, benefit enrollment assistance and supportive housing services. Our Peer Support Specialist will help us in developing our program and services and to provide meaningful services. Monday - Friday shifts.

Under the direct supervision of the Program Director, the Peer Support Specialist will be responsible for providing client-centered care to those with substance disorders or with co-occurring substances and psychiatric disorders and various other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Volunteers of Americas Operating and Program Policies and Procedures.
  • Implements and consistently practices evidence-based practice, harm reduction, trauma informed care, and integrated care interventions.
  • Provides outreach services throughout San Diego County to identify and engage potential clients who are most in need and hard to reach.
  • Develops case plans and makes appropriate placement and referrals for recovery treatment services/programs and other supportive services.
  • Facilitates self-help/support groups at co-located site locations as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to develop respectful interpersonal relationships with clients while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Establish and maintain ongoing relationships with community service provides and educate them on program criteria.
  • Advocate for clients across various systems to ensure appropriate and timely linkages to physical and mental health care, transportation, and retention in primary care services.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of community resources.
  • Provides supportive assistance to and the modeling of self-efficacy with the consumer, to help them identify, access and effectively utilize community resources.
  • Provides outreach for the program and navigation of client services delivered.
  • Assists and supports members with identifying, linking to and appropriately utilizing healthcare resources including the member's primary care physician as well as specialty care providers, dental care and vision care.
  • Assists and supports members with establishing benefits such as Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Medi-Cal and other benefits for which they are eligible SOAR benefits.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings and maintain up-to-date certifications to ensure service delivery is ethical, culturally competent, gender-responsive, trauma-informed, and evidence based.

Qualifications

Credentials, Abilities and Experience:
  • Must be willing to register as drug counselor.
  • Required excellent written and verbal communication, ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, strong documentation, and proven success as a team player.
  • Must comply with all agency and contract requirements related to trainings, public health, certifications, reporting, etc.
  • Must be able to pass a drug test, background clearance and TB test.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
  • Perform all job-related duties as assigned.
