POSITION SUMMARY :

The Overnight Support Attendant (ONSA) acts as a support person for the Sisters residing at Julie House, by being available to provide essential non-clinical and/or clinical support to Sisters and staff during evenings, weekends, and holidays. This role ensures continuity of care and excellent patient service outside of regular business hours by handling communications and being a physical presence for any Sister’s emergencies involving hospital or urgent care visits. This role ensures the community has adequate staffing and that staffing is covered in the event of a call-out. Additionally, the position includes taking care of basic household tasks. The attendant must be able to respond appropriately in case of emergency, keeping a calm demeanor and acting according to protocol.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & QUALITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities:

· Provide personal care services to residents in a professional, caring, and efficient manner offering comfort and support, both emotionally and physically

· Attendant will administer medications according to physicians’ orders (once Medication Certified)

· Accompany sisters to ER as needed and provide transportation home if needed in a Julie House car

· Inform Director of Resident Care (DRC) of all clinical issues related to the well-being of each resident.

· Effectively communicate changes in resident status to DRC or Administrator and provide updates for any Sister hospital visits

· Facilitate safe plan of discharge with DRC for Sisters in the ER that are being discharged

· Maintain accurate resident records, including all necessary and required documentation related to the resident

· Develop positive working relationships between residents and staff

· Assist with any emergencies that may arise

· Coordinate coverage for callouts, remain at work if unable to find coverage and report to DRC

· Maintain a professional environment and project a calm and competent image

· Follow established home standards, policies, procedures, and precautions in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for self and others; have a complete understanding of emergency procedures

· Maintain current Medication Administration Certification

· Perform additional assigned duties, at the direction of the DRC or Administrator

· Abide by the HIPAA regulations by respecting the privacy and confidentiality of the Sisters at all times . If uncertain about how to proceed, refer all issues to the DRC or Administrator

· Respect the physical environment of the Julie House Residential Care Center and report any accidents/repairs needed promptly to the DRC

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE/REQUIRED SKILLS:

Education:

· High School Diploma

· Graduate of an approved home health aide or certified nursing assistant program, preferred

· Familiar and compliant with all Administrative and Nursing policies and procedures focused on resident safety, such as “Abuse Prevention and Intervention” and “Incident Reporting”

· Safe driving record. Ability to drive, including at night, and assist passengers.

· Complete all required staff education programs and health requirements

Experience:

Experience having worked with disabled or elderly in a health care setting

Physical Demands:

· Requires the ability to do routine bending, ease in walking upstairs, and standing and walking for prolonged periods. Exposure to blood and bodily fluids is likely.

· Comfortable driving Sisters to / from hospital

Personal:

· Compassion for the sick and elderly; patience; effectiveness with others; ability to accept responsibility, to organize, and to communicate; initiative; adaptability; efficiency; generally good physical and mental health

 

Must meet the requirement of working: Days, Hours, Holidays, Weekends
