- Echem Consultants (echemconsultants.com), a forward-thinking material consulting firm, is seeking to recruit a Materials - NDT Engineer II to join our team in New York. Our work focuses on the nondestructive evaluation, diagnostics, and repair/rehabilitation of various structures including bridges, tunnels, buildings, and historic landmarks. As a member of the Operation's team, the Engineer's job responsibilities would include conducting material testing, evaluating structures using various Nondestructive testing (NDT) techniques, calibrating, and maintaining equipment, assisting with field data interpretation and documentation, and develop processes and procedures for field investigations. The nature of this discipline means we are looking for hard-working, self- starters with varied experience, eager to learn and contribute.
- A Bachelors' with 5 years' experience, a Master's degree in civil / structural engineering/ architecture*/ or relevant field. Understanding of engineering and architectural terminology as it relates to the construction industry.
*knowledge of existing or historic systems is preferred over new design.
- Working knowledge in one or more of the following NDT and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) methods and techniques: microwave imaging using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), corrosion mapping using half-cell potential and linear polarization resistance testing, ultrasonic testing, deformation and crack monitoring, and hygrothermal monitoring.
- Communication skills - ability to digest instructions from supervisor(s) and effectively communicate with team members. Must have the ability to talk with customers and explain complex issues to people with limited technical knowledge. Assist in the creation of presentations, webinars, educational materials, and technical resources as needed.
- Ability to effectively carry out site work, providing daily reports where necessary, to contribute to technical reports, and present data to the team and clients in both verbal communication and written format.
- Problem-solving skills and time management - ability to provide technical support under time constrains for different projects, including forensic investigations, nondestructive evaluations, repair and rehabilitation design work, and construction administration. Good troubleshooting abilities and excellent time management abilities are useful in this role.
- Physical attributes - ability to travel (domestically / internationally) per project requirements, lift objects of a certain weight, have a valid driver's license & passport, work at heights or in confined spaces.
- Computer Skills - Proficiency in computer applications and software -- including Microsoft Office products, AutoCAD, python, comsol and MATLAB.
